'old as time'

Like how this could refer to multiple things -- the practice of burning incense, prayer, offerings, etc. :)

yes, many things. i was trying to show that these rituals (burning incense) were very old, passed down from generations.

i was hesitant to use "old as time", seems cliched, but i can't think of a better phrase.

thanks for your comment, Liz. :)

Taken casually on its own, perhaps it's a cliche. I think it really works in this one. The phrase fits nicely, so I don't think we have to worry about how it is regularly used. :)

yeah, i think taken in the whole context, it works. :)

sometimes we use cliches without noticing it, and that's a concern for a poet.
