NaPoWriMo 2013, Day #1 - the neighbourhood cat
The first day is always tough. It's hard to start the engines. But thanks to a cat the other day...
the neighbourhood cat
waiting for the lift
i watch the neighbourhood cat
sitting on someone's window sill
he would not meet my eyes
his whiskers sense my resentment
he sits there haughty
he does not care about clocking
8 hours or recipes or food courts
he will be fed if he just meows
did i detect a wee smirk
on his face, a disdain in the yawn?
he sits there like a deity
people look at me funny
i miss the lift
the cat won, comfortably.

Hi Polona! so good to hear from you again. :)
thanks!
Dsnake1, so good to hear from you again. Well here we go...day 1 and you are off to a great start!
Good Luck : )
Lynn
I love cats, so I really enjoyed this poem. They do have a good life. Cats don't like to look at people directly in general. Looking away is sometimes a sign of friendliness and ease, so he's sitting there ignoring you may mean that he's ok with you. :)
Good luck on Napowrimo. I won't be doing it this year.
Thank you, Lynn!
i am not too sure about the "daily" bit, but i will try to keep up. :)
Hey Liz, i am going to miss reading your works this time round. :(
so the cat's actually ok with me? i have noticed that the cats in our neighbourhood are really not too afraid of humans. the one i described hangs around my block and the kids in the playground always call out to him.
Cats are straightforward, they don't like something or someone, they leave. :) There are many cats in my neighbourhood, half of them are people-friendly. The other lot, get away when people get too close. :)
cats have character! :D
(i will try to get a pic of that cat. he's pretty elusive though)
