GloPoWriMo 2025 - Day #11

Okay, don't just scroll social media everyday. Do something useless.

How about GloPoWriMo 2025?

talking to myself

Hey bro, you know I don't have much money right now, who brings so much cash over to this jungle? We are in the army, man. Anyway, I spent most of it on smokes, brought two cartons of marlboros over, heard the local ones are shit. The rest for R&R, we need that, the pubs, the massage parlors. It's not cheap in the city here in these 70's, everyone's trying to rip you off.

Talking about money, I made some at the blackjack games in the barracks. It's wild man, almost every night. One guy we called the "Colonel" completely lost his shirt and shit, says the dealer rigged his games. Pulls out a bayonet. We all restrained him, of course, no way the officers or MPs get a whiff of this. Then we pass a helmet around, toss in whatever change we can for his R&R.

Oh, if you have a chance to come over here, let the bedbugs bite you.

The prompt at SingPoWriMo Day7 was to "write a poem addressed to your younger self". I think the above qualifies.

Day 56 Lockdown

Day 56 of 'circuit breaker' shutdown, Singapore.

Day 56

Last day liao!

But hold the freaking horses!

They called it Phase 1 Re-opening.
Some businesses are re-opening. But not bars, KTV lounges, pubs, cinemas, casinos, places of entertainment. And still no dining in at hawker centers, food courts and restaurants. Yes, continue to tapau and eat at home.

So like really not much has changed.

There's still Phases 2 and 3 to look forward to. And expect adjustments to the previous lifestyles we are used to.

Day 54

A puzzle for today.

You are on a hang-glider, flying slowly over the countryside, looking at the scene below you. You see the roofs of houses, meadows, fields and hedges. A man trimming hedges below waves at you. You look at the hedges he was trimming, and you smile. What did you see?

For the answer look at the drawing above.

The man trimming the hedges cut it such a way that it spelled HELLO.

Day 52

Today, coming out of the food court at the nearby mall with my tapau lunch, encountered this guy, a middle aged man who was coughing rather badly. He was wearing a face mask but of course he spooked everyone, what do you expect? And today there was a sizable crowd at the mall, everyone also want to tapau lunch, izit?

Found this video of a very expensive strawberry in Japan, probably the world. Cost a whooping ¥50,000 (SGD 660) per fruit. Yes, one fruit, not a box or a basket or lorry.

Day 48

Lawyer : "Doctor, before you performed the autopsy, did you check for a pulse?"

Doctor : "No."

Lawyer : "Did you check for blood pressure?"

Doctor : "No."

Lawyer : "Did you check for breathing?"

Doctor : "No."

Lawyer : "So, then it is possible that the patient was alive when you began the autopsy?"

Doctor : "No."

Lawyer : "How can you be so sure, Doctor?"

Doctor : "Because his brain was sitting on my desk in a jar."

Lawyer: "But could the patient have still been alive nevertheless?"

Doctor : "It is possible that he could have been alive and practising law somewhere."

Day 45 Lockdown

Day 45 of 'circuit breaker' shutdown, Singapore.

NO EXTENSION!

Day 45

Yeah, no extension to the 'circuit breaker' lockdown. From 2nd June 2020 most businesses are allowed to open with safe management requirements in place. Those still not allowed are entertainment outlets (bars, theme parks, cinemas, casinos). Schools are opening gradually in stages. And hold your horses, still no dining-in at food and restaurant outlets.

What about libraries and museums? I guess they are still out.

Day 28

Today is supposed to be the last day of the lockdown. It was extended another four weeks a couple of weeks back. It was like running a 400m race round the stadium, and then suddenly told they made a mistake, sorry buddy, this is a 800m event.

Tried cooking a dinner of yam rice with chinese sausages, and at least this was yummy.

Day 26

I was going through a scrap of paper from my old documents and found something interesting. Taxi is spelled the same way in many languages : English, French, German, Spanish, Swedish, Dutch, Czech, Slovak, Norwegian, Hungarian, Romanian and Portuguese. Portuguese is actually spelled táxi but that's nitpicking. Also, while confirming with Translate, found a few more languages with same spelling : Italian, Polish, Filipino, Maltese and Basque.

Interesting to know but I will not be doing any travelling any time soon.
