it is quiet and chilly

we were trying to

My daughter was at the recently concluded festival I Light Marina Bay, and took pictures of the light installations there. She asked me if i would like to add some words to the photos. These 5 were the results. Not much, I know from more than 20 installations.

gtaV haiga - #1
I am playing the video game Grand Theft Auto 5. If you look beyond the violence and the bad language (the f*** word seems to be in every line), it really is a very good game, one of the best games I have played. Well, the story line and plot may not be much, but they tried to develop the three main characters, and there are tons of side missions to distract you. The main missions can be tough, but not so impossible that you want to give up.
The attention to details is amazing. You really have to play the game to have an idea on what I am saying. And if you are tired of all the robbing and shooting, just drive around the game world and explore all its nooks and corners, be it urban streets, the laid-back rural towns or desert terrains. And snap photos with its smartphone camera.
This is a series of haiga I did using screen captures from the game. You can say that this project is a labour of love. I love the game and I love haiku. :)
The night is alive with lights!

shiki kukai - highway
The Free Format theme for the June shiki kukai at haikuworld was "Highway". I wrote the entry in a very short time and was very satisfied with it.
This is already late July, but there is still no news about the results, although the voting phase is over. I guess I will just go ahead and post this. :)

SingpoWriMo 2016 Day #20
SingPoWriMo 2016 Day #20
It's getting harder to write when you are not getting enough sleep.
what have i got myself into?
4 a.m. sunday morning
sometimes nights are like that
awash with shadows
the rain calling your name
the night grumbles and growls
nine floors below
blue red strobe lights, doors slam
the rain is falling, scattering
like silver needles
in the glow of streetlights
voices, muffled by the wind
a woman's plead
shrill, and angry words
take the brawl somewhere nabeh!
or maybe the rain is already
washing the blood
off the cold asphalt.

shiki kukai - sleepless night
The theme for the February 2016 Free Format section of the monthly kukai at haikuworld was 'Sleepless Night'. Yah, it kept me up many a night thinking about the haiku.
I wrote a couple. The first one, I sent in as the entry.
I wasn't expecting it to do well anyway. Okay with the 2 votes that it managed. Wondered how the second one would have fared. :)

shiki kukai - moving water
The theme for the January 2016 Free Format section of the monthly kukai at haikuworld was 'Moving Water'. I wanted to write about paper boats but decided on empty spaces.
The results were out and my effort scored a total of 5 votes. Not too bad, considering the amount of good haiku that was submitted. :)

shiki kukai - quiet
The theme for the July 2015 Free Format section of the monthly kukai at haikuworld was 'Quiet'. It sounds easy enough, but I took some time settling on this one after discarding a few other efforts.
I thought this effort would do well, but it managed only 4 votes. But the standard of the haiku submitted in this edition was very high, I thought. And the comment by a reader on this haiku really lifted my spirits. : " a fresh way to express silence, it reminds me a bit on Guillaume Apollinaire..." :)

NaPoWriMo 2014 Day #8 - echoes in the night
Day #8.
Urg! Maybe needs re-working later...
echoes in the night
the distant thud of thunder
that might have been
the last beat of your heart
in the blackness of the room
only the ticking of the clock
the slow twitch of its luminous hands
grasping the hour of the night
a shade of ghastly green
and then quite clearly from the ceiling
tock//tock//tock
the sound of marbles dropping
but above that is only the rooftop...
