shiki kukai - melon

The theme for the Kigo section of the June shiki kukai at haikuworld was "Melon". I thought it should be easy, but I took some time to write this one.

There are no results (or votes) for this kukai.

shiki kukai - highway

The Free Format theme for the June shiki kukai at haikuworld was "Highway". I wrote the entry in a very short time and was very satisfied with it.

This is already late July, but there is still no news about the results, although the voting phase is over. I guess I will just go ahead and post this. :)

shiki kukai - friend

The theme for the April 2016 Free Format section of the monthly kukai at haikuworld was 'Friend'.

After reading through the entries in the voting phase, I knew my entry won't do well. There were a lot of stunningly lovely haiku. My entry feels too cliched by comparison. Not surprising that it scored only 1 vote. :)

shiki kukai - driftwood

The theme for the March 2016 Free Format section of the monthly kukai at haikuworld was 'Driftwood'. I wrote my entry in a very short while, but i thought it was not too good.

Well, it still managed to garner 2 votes. :)

shiki kukai - sleepless night

The theme for the February 2016 Free Format section of the monthly kukai at haikuworld was 'Sleepless Night'. Yah, it kept me up many a night thinking about the haiku.

I wrote a couple. The first one, I sent in as the entry.

I wasn't expecting it to do well anyway. Okay with the 2 votes that it managed. Wondered how the second one would have fared. :)

shiki kukai - moving water

The theme for the January 2016 Free Format section of the monthly kukai at haikuworld was 'Moving Water'. I wanted to write about paper boats but decided on empty spaces.

The results were out and my effort scored a total of 5 votes. Not too bad, considering the amount of good haiku that was submitted. :)

shiki kukai - evening window

The theme for the November 2015 Free Format section of the monthly kukai at haikuworld was 'Evening Window'. It took me just a short while to write one.

A little background. For those of us who practice traditional Chinese beliefs, we usually light some incense to the gods, once in the early morning and evening daily.

And the entry managed 7 votes. Not too bad a haul. :)

shiki kukai - spark

The theme for the October 2015 Free Format section of the monthly kukai at haikuworld was 'Spark'. I wrote one and submitted it, but I felt that it was not a good attempt.

It managed only 3 votes, which really is not too bad a return. :)

shiki kukai - path

The theme for the August 2015 Free Format section of the monthly kukai at haikuworld was 'Path'. I kept thinking about the theme for a couple of weeks, and then almost right on the dot of the deadline, wrote one and sent it in.

Well, it scored a total of ... 0 votes. :)

shiki kukai - quiet

The theme for the July 2015 Free Format section of the monthly kukai at haikuworld was 'Quiet'. It sounds easy enough, but I took some time settling on this one after discarding a few other efforts.

I thought this effort would do well, but it managed only 4 votes. But the standard of the haiku submitted in this edition was very high, I thought. And the comment by a reader on this haiku really lifted my spirits. : " a fresh way to express silence, it reminds me a bit on Guillaume Apollinaire..." :)

The theme for the June 2015 Free Format section of the monthly kukai at haikuworld was 'Insect Metamorphosis'. It was not easy, but I managed with one. Not much confidence with it though.

And yes, it managed only 2 votes. :)

shiki kukai - returning home

The theme for the May 2015 Free Format section of the monthly kukai at haikuworld was 'Returning Home'. After just a couple of drafts, I was satisfied with the final product.

I thought it could do better, but a return of 6 points is not too bad. :)

shiki kukai - sleeping late

The theme for the April 2015 Free Format section of the monthly kukai at haikuworld was 'Sleeping Late'. It turned out to be a bit more difficult than expected. Wrote many drafts, threw most away.

I didn't expect my entry to score any points, but it turned out not bad. It weighed in with 7 votes. :)

Well, hard enough for my entry to attract only 4 votes. :D

shiki kukai - eyewear

The theme for the January 2015 Free Format section of the monthly kukai at haikuworld was "eyewear". It seemed straightforward, me being one of those who wears such things. It took me near to deadline to come out with one.

At least it managed 6 votes. :)

shiki kukai - dog

The theme for the December Free Format section of the monthly kukai at haikuworld was "dog". Well, it seemed like a straight-forward theme, no problem with that at all. But it took me a few days to come out with a measly one haiku.

At least it gathered 6 votes. :)

shiki kukai - moonless

The theme for the October kigo section of the monthly kukai at haikuworld was "Moonless Night" or "Moonless". The haiku came to me very early, but I spent quite some time deliberating over it, changing a word here, changing a line there. And guess what, in the end, I submitted the original draft. :)

And wow! It scored zero votes in the kukai. :D

I still think it's good.

The theme for the Free Format section of the August shiki kukai was "Goodbye(s)/Parting Words". Sounds like an easy topic, isn't it?

I thought so too, and send in a monostich. It managed 4 votes. :(
