small stone 2016 - #29

Pay attention. Observe closely. Relax. And write a small stone a day.
Another day.

SingPoWriMo 2016 - Day #14

SingPoWriMo 2016 Day #14.

Good thing I didn't commit myself to a poem a day, or I will be siao liao. The office work is piling up, the muse goes AWOL, I spend more time at the PS3 than usual...

But I think this piece is not too bad...

what have i got myself into?

fill

we run from the sudden midday rain
run to malls and cafes and tunnels and bus shelters
all of us, minding our own business
in our own little spaces
just a while ago
and the rain fills the city
and the pigeons and mynahs and flies
and the dull trees and shrubs and grass
and empty pizza boxes and cigarette butts
and trash bins and traffic lights
and the streets filled with road signs
no waiting-no parking-TOW AWAY ZONE-
drive carefully

are given a new wash of life
and
when the rain goes away
sudden as it came
the midday sun starts burning again
the side walks fill
       the trains fill
          the hospitals fill
              the columbaria fill

shiki kukai - insect metamorphosis

The theme for the June 2015 Free Format section of the monthly kukai at haikuworld was 'Insect Metamorphosis'. It was not easy, but I managed with one. Not much confidence with it though.

And yes, it managed only 2 votes. :)

NaPoWriMo 2013, Day #19 - slowing down

It's getting a bit difficult to write...

slowing down

you try to take it , like,
you know, slow down, just a little,
at the foodcourt,
your eyes scanning for empty tables
so you can put down your tray of lunch
you have been holding for the past x minutes.
did everyone scurry out of their rabbit warrens
at the same freakin' time?
every day?
scanning the news a little,
how can someone crash a lambo into a road divider oh my god!

NaPoWriMo 2013, Day #6 - a point in your life

hahaha. It was during the lunch break in my office, when I was feeling cold and old, that this whole piece gushes out. I hope to have more lunch breaks like this.

a point in your life

so you come to a point in your life,
you feel cold, you feel old, booze
no longer excites, instead it plays punk
with your sphincters, the doctor sees you
and no longer asks what is bugging you
but tells you to keep off the oily stuff.

you watch weeds grow and wonder who
or which is more unwanted, the streets
growl at you and fumes and dust gets into
your eyes and coffee, children look at you
in fright and not merely because of your stubble,
and you don't rage anymore.

and so the best exercise you had in days
is to turn your head to watch that woman
in the short shorts walks by in the sidewalk
her full hips moving with a beat that stops
your heart.

you watch the sun sets over the highrises
at the quay, someone mentions a drunk had
walked into the river and drowned a couple of days back,
just a few paces where you sat, the day gets more
unsettling as a crow caws and tugs at a roadkill and
you fear your number may be up.
